The 5 Factors That Determine Kitchen Cabinet Price
- Size (running feet). The biggest factor. A 6ft kitchen and a 12ft L-shaped kitchen are very different jobs — every additional foot adds board, doors, hinges and labour. The good news: price scales proportionally per foot, it doesn't jump.
- Material. Melamine gives the most affordable modern finish; aluminium costs more but is 100% waterproof and lasts longest. We compare both honestly in our kitchen cabinet guide.
- Countertop. Quartz stone is the standard we recommend — beautiful, hard and scratch-resistant. It's also the component with the widest price range, which is why you must confirm whether it's included in any quote.
- Layout. A straight-line kitchen is the most economical; L and U shapes add corner units that need more careful work, and wall units add cost over base-only setups.

Why Do Kitchen Cabinet Quotes Vary So Much?
You've probably experienced it: three contractors, three wildly different prices for the same kitchen. It's almost always one of these:
- Per-foot vs all-in quoting. "RM300 per foot" sounds cheap — until you learn the countertop, delivery, installation and accessories are all charged separately. Added up, it's usually more than an all-in package.
- Board grade not specified. Low-grade board cuts a lot of cost — and swells within two years. Make sure the board type and grade are written into the quote.
- "Basic" hinges and accessories. Standard hinges and soft closing hinges look identical in photos, but the difference shows every single day — and in the cost.
